The dramatic transformation of our environment and life brought by the electronic media will promote a redefinition of the profession of architect.

Building will not be relegated to a physically solid presence but will be more and more defined by images.

Wired and wireless communications have already transformed the perception of space in our everyday life.

In this vision architects - as the professionals which deal mainly with physical space and its transformation - need to assume different roles, from author to builder, working with pixels as well as bricks.

As sixty years ago the Bauhaus architect was involved in designs ranging from a spoon to urban planning, today's designer has to go through the path which leads from images of architecture to architecture of images.
